A Bay View bar is hosting a pop-up experience paying homage to the filmmaker behind “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Isle of Dogs,” “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”
That’s right, Wes Anderson.
The Sugar Maple is hosting “Wes Fest: A Wes Anderson Themed Pop-Up & Art Show” Feb. 2-5, according to a news release.
The “quirky, immersive” experience will feature an Anderson-inspired local art showcase, themed cocktail menu and décor, screenings of Anderson’s films accompanied by soundtracks, a costume competition, a vendor fair, and food on select days, the bar said.
Here’s what to know, from its hours to when each festivity is going on.
Where is The Sugar Maple located?
441 E. Lincoln Ave.
Themed cocktails and food for ‘Wes Fest’
The Sugar Maple team is crafting a new menu of Anderson-inspired cocktails for the pop-up, the release said.
Sojourn Mobile Restaurant and Catering will be on-site with an event-specific food menu on Feb. 3 and 4 from 5 p.m. until selling out.
Sugar Maple to undergo ‘head-to-toe transformation’
The Wes Anderson Art Show, featuring Milwaukee-area artists, will be the focal point of the bar’s “head-to-toe transformation,” the news release said. Anderson-themed decorations will be placed throughout the space as well.
Anderson’s films will be shown on a screen in the front room without sound, while a soundtrack of music either from or inspired by his movies accompanies them. The intention is that it provides an “elemental theme,” not a theater experience, proprietor Adrienne Pierluissi said in an email.
Wes Anderson Art Show featuring local artists to run for weeks
The Wes Anderson Art Show will run for four weeks, opening at 4 p.m. Feb. 2 and closing at 10 p.m. March 2.
When is the vendor fair?
The vendor fair is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 4.
How to apply to be a part of the art showcase, vendor fair
Submissions are open for area artists and makers interested in participating in the group art showcase, vendor fair or both, the release said. The deadline for art submissions is 8 p.m. Jan. 20.
Submissions must adhere to the “Wes Anderson” theme and be produced by the artist/vendor themselves, the release said. All materials/mediums are welcome, but no A.I. (artificial intelligence) art will be accepted.
Larger pieces are preferred (but not required) as the bar has four spaces at 3-by-6-feet and six at 4-by-6-feet, according to the release.
Applicants are to indicate “gallery show” and/or “vendor fair” in their submission, and provide their name, email, an Instagram or website link …….
